Our extra-curricular activities

The clubs that we offer have been chosen with the children to make them as fun and exciting as possible. We have some old favourites that the children ask for again and again aswell as some changes too.

Some of our older children even help to lead some clubs!

Want to know a bit more about our clubs?

Steel Drums

Mrs Parry has been teaching the year 6 children to play the steel drums for years. Throughout the year, they learn basic skills, practise different tunes and work towards performances at Christmas and at our Kaleidoscope festival.

Garden Rangers

Our garden rangers work really hard to keep our garden and greenhouse looking fresh and full of life in spring and summer. Along the way they develop some great gardening skills too!

Our cookery club was so popular that we had to split it over two nights. It now runs on a Tuesday and a Thursday starting with KS1. The children are getting alot more hands-on time too so they can learn preparing and cooking skills.

We're sure you know all about our choirs by now and may have even had the privilege of seeing them perform. The children are the real leaders in both the KS1 and KS2 choirs - they pick the songs and even suggest where to perform!

Art Club

Now this is the club for all those aspiring artists out there! Miss Brown and Mrs Constable are the new leaders of this fantastic new club. The children will not only be creating some wonderful pieces of artwork, but taking some real inspiration from some of the greats and learning about them too!

Board Game Club

Arguably one of our most popular clubs - the children just cannot get enough of this one! Who wouldn't want to enjoy a biscuit whilst challenging your mate (or Mrs Duffy and Miss Hadfield) to a game of Hungry Hippos?

Science Club

We have some great news for the future Einsteins amongst us - Science Club in here! Mrs Mansell and Mrs Whitehurst will be on hand to help create some extraordinary experiments. The year 3/4 children will be the first to try out this club, but don't worry it'll soon be open to everyone else!

Table tennis

Back due to popular demand! Our ping-pong pros from L&S Table Tennis Skills will be coming into school each Wednesday to host this super club for KS2.

Dance Club

It is back! Dance club returns but with a new host - Miss Hall. Miss Hall is new to Thoresby but cannot wait to get stuck in. This is bound to be a popular club so to start with we are inviting the KS1 children, but don't worry KS2 your turn will come after Christmas. Get ready to show us your moves!

Lunch time clubs - These clubs are currently run on a rota system, which allows as many year groups the opportunity to take part as possible.

This term Change4life  is aimed at Y3/4 with some Y6 leaders helping Mrs Duffy out. It is aimed at promoting a healthy and fun lifestyle.

Stay and Read

Miss Ridpath is really excited to share a book or two with the budding readers in KS1. Each Tuesday lunch time the club comes together to hare their favourite books.

Thoresby Newspaper

This club was arranged by some budding young journalists who approached Mrs Milner and asked if they could start a school newspaper. So they did! Helped by Mrs Brown, the children are going to be reporting on lots of exciting news about our community. The newspaper will be be displayed on a board in the school for everyone to see.
