Welcome to the 4S community!

As our very exciting year has come to an end we are looking at Hull in the future and hoping to carry on the legacy of Hull 2017. The children will be sharing their ideas of what they think Hull will be like in the future and designing vehicles using their science, technology and engineering knowledge. This topic will also utilise the children’s ICT skills where they can design and edit their models before constructing.

Literacy

This term the children will be focussing on instructions and narrative genres using the text 'How to train your dragon'. Hiccup Horrendous Haddock tells his tale of how he tamed a dragon during Viking times. This is a firm favourite with the children and they are really looking forward to getting their teeth stuck into the text.

Book Club

In 4S our next Book Club text this year is Phillip Ridley's- The Krindlekrax. Each Friday your child will have a section from the book to read at home as part of their weekly homework. We encourage you to read and enjoy this text together and ask that your child brings the book back on Monday for our Book Club sessions.

Wider Opportunites

Year 4 children will take part in weekly music lessons in class which involve learning to play the clarinet.  We will be working towards a performance later in the year.

Marvellous Maths!

During the spring term, the children will revisit fractions, building on their knowledge from year 3. They will also be grouping and dividing as well as making links between their times table knowledge and division. In topic maths we are going to be learning about movement and coordinates, this will be very useful for a designing projects!

Super Science!

This term in science we will be investigating Humans and Animals; Living things and their habitats.

First we will look at a variety of food chains, identifying producers, predators and prey.

Then how to group in a variety of ways, exploring and using classification keys to identify and name a variety of living things in their local and wider environment.

P.E.

Our PE day is Wednesday. This half –term we have gymnastics. Please can your child bring a pair of shorts or leggings to leave at school so they can climb and jump on the equipment safely.
