Welcome to Mrs Dodsworth's class

What's coming up this term?

Welcome back everyone!  It is so nice to see everyone after the Easter break and the children have returned to school ready to work hard this term.

This term we are looking forward to exploring our new topic which focuses on Australia and asks the key question, "What Amy Johnson discover when she visited Australia?"

Our key text this term is Jack and the Beanstalk. We love traditional tales and we are excited to continue our learning of a five part story. A key focus will be to invent a new character and change parts of the book. We are also going to be writing a character description based on this story, working hard to use descriptive language, embellished sentences and grammar features.

Following this, we are going to write a letter…but the recipient is top secret! We are hoping to persuade a special team to come and visit us during Kaleidoscope!...Watch this space!

In our maths lessons this term we will be covering addition and subtraction, multiplication and division and fractions.

The children will be using their knowledge of the four operations in order to solve problems and develop their reasoning skills.

Afternoon maths sessions provide further opportuntiy for children to acquire maths skills based around the topic focus.  During these sessions we will look at time, measure, money and data handling.

As scientists we will look at animals in different habitats and how they adapt to these environments.  We will explore food chains in these different habitats, woodland habitats and habitats that are in contrast to our local area, such as the Tropical Rainforest.  Whilst thinking about animals found in different habitats we will also group these animals according to what they eat, their observable features and use secondary sources to find out interesting facts about a variety of animals.
